More St. Louis Landscaping Tips
Don’t let the warm temperatures fool you, winter will be here before you know it. Here a couple landscaping tips that can help your outdoor spaces looking great year round!
PLAN FOR THE WHOLE YEAR
When you plant evergreen shrubs and trees that retain their foliage or needles all-year round, it creates some visual interest in your landscaping during the cold winter months when the leaves have fallen and the color is long gone.
Placed strategically, evergreens can also provide a permanent privacy buffer or block against cold winter winds (helping you save on energy costs) and can be used to soften the vertical lines of your home, giving it a more inviting appearance.
For the rest of the landscaping select from a diverse range of plants that bloom at different times of the year, so there is always color in your garden. Choose plants that also vary in the color of their flowers and their height for maximum variety!
CREATE A CONNECTION
Your property could include a wide range of features like a deck, patio, pool, gardens, ponds, gazebos, outdoor recreation and seating areas and more.
Instead of simply trampling the lawn between these outdoor elements, create a walkway instead to connect these points of interest. Attractive options for materials are concrete stepping stones or pavers, natural flagstone, decorative brick or crushed stone.
Using a material that’s similar to what’s used on the exterior of the home (like brick or stone) can help tie everything together aesthetically.
If safety is a concern or you anticipate significant use you can also pour a concrete walkway.
When illuminating walkways or focal points in the landscape, alternate their placement from one side of the path to the other for or place them in groups to add variety.
