Yard drainage solutions in St. Louis
St. Louis yards deal with both kinds of water trouble. Summer can bake a lawn, and a wet spring can leave a corner of the yard soupy for weeks. Clay soil is slow to let water through, so low spots stay wet long after the rain stops.
We fix drainage with grading and with pipe. A small low spot may only need soil and a new slope. A yard that collects water from a neighbor, a downspout, or a patio usually needs a drain that has somewhere legal and sensible to outlet.
Grading or a drain
Regrading lets water run off the surface. It is the more disruptive option and the right one when the soil can be reshaped without burying the plants you want to keep. A French drain collects water the surface cannot shed and carries it away in a pipe. Both need an outlet. Pushing water onto the neighbor or against the foundation is not a fix.
Where the soil will stay damp, we can also plant for it. Hydrangea, iris, and daylily tolerate more moisture than a fescue lawn does. That is a planting decision, not a substitute for moving water off a foundation.

Questions we hear often
Do you install creek stabilization?
No. We work on yard drainage: soggy lawns, downspout discharge, and water sitting in beds. Creek banks are a different kind of project.
Can I add a drain myself?
Homeowners do, on short runs. The hard part is the outlet and the depth. A consultation is a good idea before you rent a trencher.
Will new sod fix a wet lawn?
Only if the water has somewhere to go. Sod laid over a puddle will fail. We look at grade and drainage before we sell you grass.
