Erosion control for St. Louis yards

Erosion shows up as mulch in the gutter, roots exposed on a bank, or a channel cut through the lawn after one storm. Clay holds water, then lets go in a sheet when it is finally saturated.

We slow that water down and cover the soil. The fix is usually a mix of grading, plants with roots that hold a bank, and, where the slope is steep, a small retaining wall. We do not take on creek stabilization.

How we hold a slope

Bare soil is the problem. Ground covers, shrubs, and the right mulch keep rain from hitting the dirt directly. On a longer slope, a low wall or a terrace breaks the run so water cannot pick up speed.

If the water is concentrated in one channel, drainage work belongs in the plan too. Covering a wash with mulch alone will not last the next thunderstorm.

Questions we hear often

Do you stabilize creeks?

No. We handle yard slopes, banks, and washouts around homes and businesses. Creek work needs a different contractor.

Will plants alone stop erosion?

On a mild slope, yes, once the roots take. A steep or already-cut bank usually needs grading or a small wall along with the plants.
